How Much Water Should We Consume?

“How Much Water Should I Drink?” The enigma…

Let’s be clear first. If your expectation from this article is a measure with a glass or spoon, we are sorry you will not find what you are looking for. We strongly recommend that you stay away from those who give such clear recommendations. Because the amount of adequate and correct water consumption is a parameter that varies according to the lifestyle, geography, weight and gender of the person.

Consuming the right amount of water has dozens of benefits to the body, as well as consuming too little or too much water.

For example, how low water consumption slows down all the activities performed by our cells, and if our body does not allow toxin, too much water consumption can disrupt our metabolic balance.

So what determines the right amount?

2.5-3 liters of water taken into the body every day; we lose it through sweating, respiration, urine and similar activities. This means that under normal conditions, we can fill the place of the liquid consumed with an average of 2-2.5 liters, ie 10-12 glasses of water per day, and maintain our metabolic balance. However, situations outside of normal conditions, such as being overweight and daily activities, can increase the need for water. If we make a simple calculation, consuming an extra 1 glass of water for every 10 kilos exceeding the normal weight does not give a clear result, but it is approximately enough to meet the need.

When we set aside factors such as weight and gender, our daily movement, amount of sweating and seasonal factors come into play. Think about it, do you want more water in winter or summer? Among all these parameters, the most accurate thing is to keep the amount I mentioned above constant and listen to your body for more. If you think that you need more water for a day when you do intense sports and sweat, you should know that you need to supplement your body’s fluid balance with a few more glasses of water, and if you think that you have dry skin or that the color of your urine is darker, you should take the same precautions. Your body will definitely send you a signal about this.

If you say there is no method of calculating it;

If you are good with numbers, you can find your ideal water consumption by multiplying your body weight by 0.033.

For example; 50 kg x 0.033 = 1.6 liters, of course, this amount is valid for a day at normal temperature and limited physical activity.
